For our service learning project, my team decided to host a small business fair where local businesses could network with each other and the community to increase awareness of their products and services. We chose to host the event at the local Oakdale Mall as we figured there would be a decent amount of foot traffic already, but also to increase foot traffic in the mall. We coordinated the event with marketing manager of the mall, Courtney Rozen to plan for the tables and space needed.
On the day of the event, we were a little disappointed. We only We had hoped for more traffic in the mall and more businesses to attend the event than we obtained. Truthfully, the event was quite a large project for the small timeframe and a group of students at the university to handle, but we all gained incredibly valuable experience from the project. Our eagerness and care for the community businesses showed at the showcase event at the end of the semester where we presented our final project video to the rest of the knowledge communities. I am very proud of my team and the work we put into this big event, even if it did not give us the results we desired.
